One of Australia’s leading public commentators, Henry Ergas will explore the challenges facing liberal democracy, social cohesion and respectful public discourse in an increasingly polarised world. At a time of increasing social division, rising antisemitism, and growing challenges to social cohesion in Australia and across the democratic world, communities of faith and goodwill have a vital role to play in strengthening mutual understanding, resilience and civic engagement.
Drawing on decades of experience in economics, public policy and international affairs, Henry will offer unique insights into the challenges and opportunities facing Australia, the Jewish community, and broader society in an increasingly complex global environment.
Henry is a weekly columnist for The Australian and one of Australia’s most respected public intellectuals. His distinguished career has included senior roles at the OECD in Paris, appointments at leading international universities, and service on numerous government advisory panels. In 2016, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to infrastructure economics, higher education and public policy.
This special interfaith event will provide an opportunity for community leaders and members to engage in a meaningful discussion about the future of social cohesion, democratic values and constructive relationships between communities.
