From ANZAC to Aliyah
Early in the morning of the 31st October 1917, New Zealand and Australian horsemen were joining together among the wadis and stony hills east of Beersheva in the south of the Land of Israel.
In London, England, members of the War Cabinet were preparing to meet later that day to discuss the possible future fate of that Land.
In the afternoon of the 31st, the New Zealand Mounted Rifles gained possession of strategic positions held by the Turks that blocked further advance.
At 4.30 pm, with orders to take the town of Beersheva by nightfall and prevent the precious wells from being destroyed, the Australian Light Horse set off to cross the 2 miles that was between the Allies and a foothold into Turkish held Eretz (Land of) Israel.
The full story is much longer. Within the intrigues, coincidences, and twists of fate, the Hand of God was clearly on this first prophetic instalment of the return to Israel of the scattered Jewish exiles.
The ongoing story continues as the exiles continue to go Home with again, gentile help as those who heed the banner’s call:
“See, I will beckon to the nations, I will lift up my banner to the peoples; they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their hips”. (Isaiah 49:22)
More Jews are looking towards their ancient homeland as antisemitism rises around the globe as we see in the chart below.
