Approximately a quarter of Israel’s 165,800 Holocaust Survivors live below the poverty line in 2022 and many more are suffering from illness and loneliness. Little time remains for us to reach out and care for the last living witnesses of the great Shoah. This project aims to show Christian care for those who suffered unspeakably in “Christian” Europe and to assist them in living out the rest of their days with dignity and surrounded by love.
Aged care is a growing challenge across the globe. When combined with the trauma of war and genocide then the Christian conscience is compelled to act. In 2009, the ICEJ partnered with locals to provide a community hub and living facilities in Haifa. This unique joint project between Christians and Jews offers assisted-living and a warm community of loving Israeli staff and ICEJ volunteers who look after the daily needs of elderly Holocaust survivors.
