Preparing For Passover
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23
Soon the glorious deliverance of God’s people from slavery will be remembered during the annual celebration of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. In many Jewish homes and institutions, cleaning & preparation is well underway to ensure that in accordance with God’s instructions in Exodus 12:15, all leaven will be removed from their houses. This powerful portrayal of being rid of that which is symbolic of pride and corruption is what Paul was referencing when he wrote to gentile believers in 1 Corinthians 5:7, “Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Messiah, our Pesach, has been sacrificed in our place.”
As in the literal spring cleaning happening now throughout Israel, spiritual cleansing also takes effort and time, but one that can take place any time God speaks to us about corrupting influences in our lives.
Exodus 13:3 “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt..”
This year, Passover which is always celebrated with friends and family, will emphasise the heartache of missing family members. Other concerns too such as dislocation from communities and financial difficulties because of the situation, will dampen what should be a joyous celebration.
However, we have the chance to help evacuee families and others who are struggling because of the war. ICEJ wants to give food coupons to as many disadvantaged families as possible. These will allow families to purchase needed items at a time prices tend to be higher.
