The ICEJ team at the Haifa Home for Holocaust Survivors will in 2026, continue their loving care of the residents by providing Occupational and Physio services; special days of celebration and commemoration, beauty care and outings.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On January 27, Haifa Home residents joined a moving community ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Survivors sat alongside schoolchildren, families, and dignitaries, united in remembrance and solidarity. Speakers reflected not only on the past but also on the alarming rise of antisemitism today. ICEJ President Dr. Jürgen Bühler was honoured for decades of care for survivors, reminding all of the Christian call to stand with Israel in prayer and practical support. The evening closed with children singing “Am Yisrael Chai,” a powerful reminder of hope, leaving many survivors deeply comforted and encouraged that they are not alone.
Trip to Beit She’an National Park
Residents from the former Soviet Union recently enjoyed a special outing to Beit She’an National Park, many of them having arrived in Israel after fleeing the war in Ukraine. Alongside rebuilding their lives, we help them connect to their new homeland through history classes and trips like this.
Walking among the ancient Roman ruins, preserved streets, columns, and amphitheatre, was deeply moving. “The best trip till now,” said Etta. Others shared how meaningful it was to experience the land together, feel a sense of belonging, and be part of Israel’s long story.
Beauty and Confidence
Many residents were hesitant to try the new on-site Beauty Salon due to painful past experiences, especially with pedicures. Slowly, the professional and gentle care is changing that. Fanny, who had been fearful for a long time, finally gave it a try and came out smiling. “It was wonderful, no pain at all. I will absolutely go again,” she shared. These small but meaningful moments restore dignity & confidence showing how thoughtful care can bring comfort and joy to survivors’.
Visit to a Special Zoo
“I have been dreaming of petting dogs, and today my dream became reality,” said Sonja, who came to Israel with her husband 42 months ago from Ukraine. Due to her physical health, she is mostly home-bound and therefore an outing to a petting zoo just outside of Haifa was a dream come true. The three lovely dogs immediately caught her attention, and they became instant friends. Meanwhile, residents Arnold and Boris were elated to touch and carry snakes. They were the heroes of the day and felt very brave and courageous.
