Celebrating Sukkot
“…A time to weep and a time to laugh.” – Ecclesiastes 3:4
We stand with the Jewish world in sorrow as they mourn the savage and appalling attack on worshippers at a Day of Atonement service in England on the 2nd October and a few days later as they commemorated the 7th Octobers invasion and unspeakable atrocities and massacres.
Many Australians are rejoicing in the City of our great King, as they celebrate Sukkot at ICEJ’s Feast. The flimsy shelters on balconies, courtyards, footpaths and other available places look back to the Israelites in the harsh wilderness living in temporary fragile shelters and experiencing the provision and protection of God. In an increasingly uncertain and shaky world, the succah can remind us that our security is in God. The nations have joined the celebrations in Jerusalem since 1980, a foretaste of Zechariah 14:16 when the nations will be obliged to go up to Jerusalem each year and celebrate this wonderful festival that also speaks of dwelling in God’s Presence.
Commemoration Day Of October 7
The Zionist Council of NSW invites the NSW community to come together to mark the 2nd anniversary of the atrocities that took place on October 7, 2023.
As we come together in blue and white, a symbol of unity, resilience, and hope, we will remember our brothers and sisters in Israel who lost their lives on October 7, while praying for the safe return of the remaining hostages.
Among the victims was Australian citizen, Galit Carbone z’l.
Her brother, Geoffrey Majzner, will be our keynote speaker.
As a community, we remain committed to supporting one another, drawing strength from our shared bonds and standing together against hate.
Rebuilding The Kibbutz Be'eri Children's Centre
For the 1200-plus residents of Be’eri, it was devastating. Over 120 houses were destroyed, 132 members were killed or kidnapped, including 51 elderly residents, some of whom are still not released. Most homes were destroyed by fire, and the others were pillaged and robbed. Thirteen public buildings were destroyed and desecrated. One was a key building that was part of the Children’s Education Centre.
On October 7, terrorists took over the Children’s Centre – it was a strategic act. They knew it included the heaviest fortified missile protected buildings in the centre of the community. One of the most heroic battles took place between the medical centre and the kindergarten, lasting for 7 hours.
