Continuing To Love A Hurting Nation

While many of us have deep concerns about rampant anti-semitism, a question we are frequently asked is: What practical ways can I show my support to our Jewish brothers and sisters in Australia?

In addition we each have a part to play in broadening understanding and enhancing social cohesion.

Former Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Olympic Gold Medallist, Nova Peris, provided some valuable suggestions and we’ve added a few of our own. Here are specific actions you could take

Josh Frydenberg and Nova Peris

Write a short note of encouragement on a card or post card which can be personally handed to Israeli’s & the Defence Forces during the Feast of Tabernacles. Involve your kids and grandkids to write to Israeli children. You can Email: connect@icej.org.au or post to: 40/140 William Street, Melbourne 3000 before 1 October 2024 and our team ensure this happens.

E.G “My family from Australia are standing and praying with you”

Smile warmly at your Jewish neighbour and engage in conversation with them. As a Jewish friend told me recently – ‘I feel like I want to hide – I don’t feel safe anymore’.  Help them feel safe by just being kind and friendly.

Psalm 133: How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.

Join the Jewish community for October 7 Memorial event in your city – keep an eye on our social media pages and these updates for further details.

Host a multicultural discussion lunch or evening at your home. Have an open dialogue about social cohesion and what we can do to make Australia a respected melting pot of cultures that we can all safely call home.

Encourage the educational institution you are affiliated with to foster understanding and build respectful dialogue about Jewish history and culture, as well as all other faiths.

Educate yourself: Broaden your podcast, reading lists and attend events. There is an abundance of high quality, You-tube videos available, particularly on ICEJ YouTube channel.

Write to your local MP when you see hate-filled acts in your local area. Use your voice to promote and create positive programs in your community.

Support educational initiatives about Jewish culture and history.

Visit the Jewish Museum of Australia and the Melbourne Holocaust Museum.

Advocate for stronger hate crime laws and enforcement.

Ask your children or young people in your circle what they know about antisemitism and where they get their information. Talk, share and visit any of the suggestions above.

And the most important to last…PLEASE continue to PRAY that God’s light and truth will shine into the darkness of hatred of Antisemitism in our nation.

FEAST OF TABERNACLES CELEBRATION 16TH-23RD OCTOBER

Feast of Tabernacles 2024 Jerusalem

This year’s Feast will be unlike any other before it, as Christians gather from the nations to show their love and support for the grieving nation of Israel. We will be taking special steps to honour those most impacted by the atrocities of last October.

Your presence at this year’s Feast will serve as a great encouragement and comfort to Israelis, and help you better testify to what this nation has been through over the past year. – ICEJ President Dr Juergen Buhler
