Sounding The Shofar for Rosh Hashanah
Psalm 89:15, “Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
We wish Jewish Readers L’shana tovah u’metukah.
Next week beginning in the evening of the 2nd October, God’s command in Numbers 29:1 will be observed. “In the 7th month on the first day of the month…you shall have a day of blowing (the shofar).”
No reason for the commandment is given in scripture, but because the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur)when God judges hearts follows ten days later, it is understood to be a wakeup call to ensure one is right before God and man. It is this concept that Paul is most likely drawing on in the scriptures in Romans 13:11 ‘…now it is high time to wake out of sleep…’ and Ephesians 5:14 “Therefore He says: ‘Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Messiah will give you light’.”
“You see,” says Dr. Mojmir Kallus, ICEJ Vice President for International Affairs, “the context is repentance. And it is the sound of the shofar which is saying: Awake from your slumber, cast away darkness, and walk in light.”
We know that a Day of Judgement awaits the world in the timing of the LORD, His people need to be awake, walking as children of the light in a time of increasing darkness.
At the sound of the Shofar, we remember that it is the LORD who saves us from our enemies. – Num 10:9
At the sound of the Shofar, we remember to be watchman for this time we are living in. – Eze 33:6
At the sound of the Shofar, we remember the Day of the LORD is coming.
– Joe 2:1
At the sound of the Shofar we are reminded to be ready for the coming of Messiah.
– 1Th 4:16-17

CHRISTIAN FRIENDS OF ISRAEL COMMUNITIES
Christian Friends of Israeli Communities Heartland is hosting a Christian led gathering in Brisbane on Oct 5, 2024. Many pro-Israel Christian organisations will be invited to stand with the Jewish community. We will commemorate the Israelis lost and abducted on that dreadful day 12 months ago. We will stand with their families and communities offering heartfelt condolences that mere words cannot express. Through our collective worship and prayer, while the nation is in mourning, we will echo words of honour and love, peace and restoration, friendship and unity.
NEVER AGAIN IS NOW - OCT 7TH RALLY
We know that the history and politics of the Middle East is complicated and contested. However, we firmly believe that there is never an excuse for antisemitism. We believe Australians must stand together in solidarity with our Jewish friends and neighbours. We will sing. We will pray. We will push back the darkness and the hatred.
The event will occur over 2 hours in a large iconic central Canberra
location. The exact location will be announced closer to the event (for security). The AFP Police and security are involved to facilitate
community safety on the day.
