Shavuot is the spring harvest festival held 50 days after Passover which also marks the giving of the Law to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai. Christians mark the Day of Pentecost which is when the Holy Spirit fell on the early followers of Jesus gathered for Shavuot in Jerusalem and the Church was born in fire.
On the very first Passover, God’s people were set free from bondage. Shavuot was the time of the first fruits harvest, another cause for celebration, and it was then that Pentecost happened where God poured out His Spirit on the followers of the risen Jesus.
The Biblical Feast of Shavuot, The Feast of Weeks, or Pentecost, is one of the three times in the year when the people of Israel were required by God to come up to Jerusalem for a holy assembly.
